the lighter side of “no on prop 8”

Unless you’ve been really out of touch, you’ve probably already heard about how the Mormon Church has poured millions of dollars into Proposition 8, the proposed amendment to the California constitution that would ban same-sex marriage. Mind you, this is money coming from outside the state, from a tax-exempt church in order to fund a political campaign. In all fairness, I want to acknowledge that not all Mormons support the way that the church has encouraged its members to donate money and time to support Prop. 8. And there are other religious groups that support Prop 8, but the Mormons have taken a more direct stance in the campaign than other groups. (It’s also worth noting that lots of religious groups have come out against the proposition.)
In any case, quite a few companies have come out against the proposition, including Apple. Here’s an announcement from their site. (Thanks to Violet Blue for the tip.)
“Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.”
So with that in mind, here a re a couple of funny Apple-style ads against Prop 8. I thought these were quite well done.
