Moving On and Saying Farewell to Good Vibrations

As many folks know, I’ve worked at Good Vibrations since 1996. It’s been an amazing journey, and now it’s time for me to move on.

My job at Good Vibrations was one of the most incredible opportunities I could ever have had. Although I’d been a sex educator before that, working in the store and talking with people about their desires, interests, and challenges gave me a perspective on sex, love, and relationships that nothing else could rival. I’ve spoken with people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, and relationship structures about more different ways to have sex than I can describe. I’ve helped people connect with their fantasies and explore new ways to experience pleasure, and I’ve offered information and suggestions that changed people’s lives. Good Vibrations was a marvelous education in sexual diversity that I will always be grateful to have had.

It was also a wonderful place to meet some of the most incredible people I’ve ever known, which is saying something because I know a lot of awesome folks. My co-workers were fantastic and I’m grateful to each and every one of them. I also had the opportunity to develop connections with many colleagues across different communities.

However, my own projects have been taking up more of my attention and they’ve reached the point where I can’t give both things the energy they each deserve. My book, The Ultimate Guide to Prostate Pleasure: Erotic Exploration for Men & Their Partners, will be released in a few weeks and I’m really proud of it. My book partner, Aislinn Emirzian, and I will be on tour for several months, teaching workshops and helping more men and couples discover how much fun prostate play can be. It’s time for me to create the space to make that happen.

I have nothing but the deepest respect for all of my colleagues at Good Vibrations and we’re definitely parting as friends. I’m honored to have the book launch parties at the stores (1/31 at GV Valencia St. and 2/6 at GV Oakland) and I’d love to see you there. And I’m looking forward to seeing the company thrive. Good Vibrations was the original sex-positive resource for sex information and amazing products and the company paved the way for shifts in the sex toy world that many folks take for granted. Believe me- having seen it up close, I can tell you that the world is a much better place because of Good Vibrations and I’m deeply grateful to have been able to be part of that.

This is an exciting (and, I admit, scary) change for me. And I’m ready to step out into new terrain and see what awaits me. Wish me luck!

    Dear Charlie,
You will be missed!  No doubt, the step you’re taking is maybe a bit scary – you’re going against the grain.  But I can tell you this much: as scary as it is, as many times in the next 6 or 12 months you stop ask yourself “WHAT was I THINKING?”, it’ll be worth it in the end.  I’m looking forward to all the wonderful things you’re gonna bring to the world.

Good luck, Charlie!  Not that you’ll need it.  You have been such an inspiration to me and everyone at Good Vibrations.  When I get older and have grandchildren i’ll be able to say, “I was a Good Vibes SESA when Charlie Glickman was there!”

Take care, don’t forget to visit!

I’m so proud of you for writing and publishing your book, and being willing to take this leap of faith into following your bliss.  The world is a better place for having you in it, and I feel personally blessed to know you in real life.

    Charlie!
I am so stoked for you!  You are definitely one of the good ones who deserves to be on tour with a book you worked really hard to write!
You’re gonna kill it out there!
